Wow! What a wonderful place for snorkeling and scuba diving the Big Island of Hawaii is, Kona received the moniker the Gold Coast as you would look in the water and it would be shimmering gold with the tremendous schools of yellow tang, even today you can see big schools of these fish. Hawaii is very unique in that 25% of the fish that are here are only found here. It is not uncommon to count over 150 different spices of fish at Honounou. Turtles, dolphins and manta rays are routinely spotted by Big Island Hawaii scuba divers & snorkels at Honounou.
Boat Dives are the norm in Hawaii, but an exception is the famous 2 step at Honounou or the City of Refuge which has over 150 different species of fish. It is not uncommon to see turtles as they cruise along eating the grasses and mosses that grow along the shore. Picasso trigger fish one of the most colorful reef fish also known as lagoon trigger fish are found on he left side, if you are looking out towards the deep in around 15 feet of water, so even snorklers can se them. You can find frog fish that look like rocks when they get older and stone fish that look like stones, hence the name, but you need to be careful as the stone fish have poisonous spines.
Something else that you might not want to play with would be the eels they are not aggressive but their favorite food is octopus and they have bad vision, so your hand will look quite appetizing to them. There are many different types here from dwarf eels to giant morays, yellow & white mouths and green head morays are all fairly common. Another great find here is the very hard to spot leaf scorpions which look like leafs but have the same type of eyes as the stone fish, which look like what I would guess the monolith called TMA from 2001 a Space Odyssey would look like when you peered in except the difference here is that if Dave looked in he would say instead "Wow its full of fish"!

Malta and Gozo, located in the centre of the Mediterranean, have a rich history spanning over the last 7000 years or so! There are temples, goddesses, wrecks, hypogea, cemeteries, Bronze Age villages, catacombs, tombs, villas, baths, 'cart ruts', caves, auberges, palaces, fortifications, and so much more. All this is sure to interest any historian, archaeologist, or sightseer! But of all these, the oldest and perhaps the most spectacular are the prehistoric temples scattered all over the islands.
Malta Archeology
The evidence available suggests that man reached the islands by boat from Sicily about 7000 years ago. They were farmers who built extraordinary structures out of large slabs of stone. There is little argument that these structures were in fact temples because they are monumental in size, contain many symbols and altars, and show no sign of domestic use at all.
Inside the majority of the temples, statuettes (as well as one monumental statue) have been discovered which represent an opulent mother goddess, also known as 'The Fat Lady'. It is believed that she was worshipped by the farmers in order to have good crops in the typically hot weather.
Even the shape of these temples is unique; they are either lobed, or made up of a series of apses. The incredible thing is that when viewed from above (as a bird's eye view) the temples seem to have the same shape as the mother goddess, with large thighs! Interestingly, there is no such structure anywhere in the world which is remotely similar to our Maltese temples. This emphasizes the uniqueness of the island, present from even 7000 years ago!
There are some twenty three temples around the island, most of which stand alone or in pairs. These span from around 3600 to 2500BC, making them even older than the Great Pyramid of Egypt, which dates to 2550BC! These include the Ggantija temple, which is the oldest known temple found on the island of Gozo, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples, Tarxien Temples, Kordin Temple, Skorba Temple, and Ta' Hagrat Temple, amongst others.
There is also a prehistoric underground burial know as the Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum which is associated with the Tarxien Temple, in that it is said to be its related burial ground. It is also completely unique and seems to be a cut-out copy of the temples, but underground. Apart from offerings and skeletons, two incredible chambers were discovered inside, known as the Holy of Holies, as well as the Oracle Room, known for its incredible use of sound. This hypogeum has been recently restored, lit up, opened to the public and been acknowledged as a UNESCO World Heritage site. But book ahead, as only groups of 10 are allowed in every hour and this is surely not one to miss!
Maltese Culture and Traditional Rituals
The rituals that took play within the temples were also very interesting and unique. Apart from the statuettes of the mother goddess, many other symbols were found, including phallic symbols, carved farming animals, and a curly spiral design which has become somewhat of a trademark on the island. The temples are divided into private and public areas where the priests and public were divided. Altars were used to sacrifice animals to the deities, and holes at the entrances were used for libration; the pouring of liquids such as water, wine or blood, to the goddess.
This incredible period in our history ended very mysteriously and abruptly! At the end of what is known as the 'Tarxien Phase', which is the latest phase in this period, the temples went completely out of use and it is almost as though everyone disappeared. In fact, at a later phase a new group of people moved into the temples and used them for completely different reasons.
Archaeologists still wonder what may have brought such an abrupt end to one of the most complex and advanced prehistoric cultures of its time!

Sivara Spa is a luxury chain spa exclusive to Amari Hotels and Resorts in various parts of Thailand (Bangkok, Koh Chang, Krabi, Patttaya, Phuket, Samui, Trang)
On my last trip to Bangkok, I stayed at the Amari Watergate and Sivara Spa is tucked away on the 8th floor of the hotel and facing the swimming pool and health and fitness centre.
The Sivara Spa at the Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok is newly renovated to a modern and contemporary Thai style. As you walk into the reception, you can find a delightful interplay of bronze "lotus flowers", water walkways, stones, curtains, candlelight and flowers.
There are three spacious zen-themed double rooms and 5 single treatment rooms. Each of the themed double rooms is assigned to a signature treatment.
In the spa brochure own words, the various themes for the treatment rooms are:
The Mystical Forest room harnesses the spirit of the forest and allows guests to meditate on the power of nature. This botanically-inspired room features a tropical rain shower to wash away the stress of the day. The refreshing blends of essential oils used for the massages will leave the body feeling rejuvenated.
In Floral Bloom room, you can guarantee that tension will drain away and the spirit will be revived with a rose petal bath in this floral paradise. The fragrances of flowers will cleanse and purify your soul, whilst the ylang ylang, lavender and marjoram essential oils, used in the treatments, provide the ultimate feminine indulgence.
In the Herbal Inspiration room, the healing qualities of herbs - known for centuries, as nature's gift to mankind - are combined with luxurious pampering.
I opted for the "Sarada Package" (2hrs) treatment which comprises a oil massage & facial. I was not keen to do a facial and the receptionist was flexible enough to change the facial to a body scrub instead.
From the lighting and temperature in the room, to the volume of music and pressure applied during massages or scrubs, the therapist was so caring and considerate for my entire treatment. The gentle therapist at the spa truly live up to the gracious spirit of the Thai's spa culture.
For total relaxation, the Sivara Spa also offer a complete range of massage, spa, facial and body treatments. The selection of treatments include Thai and oil massages, body polishes and wraps, facials, and even a customized half day, full day, multi-days spa program. There is also the awesome 4-hands massage, which has become the signature treatment of high-end Thailand's spa, but due to time constraints, I could not find time for this famous treatment.
The prices in the Sivara Spa are typical of hotel spas and are hence slightly on the high side. If you are a guest of the hotel, make sure you pick up a discount voucher at the hotel concierge which will entitle you to a 10% discount and a free floral foot bath.
Location of Spa: Amari Watergate Hotel, 847 Petchburi Road Bangkok 10400
Size of Spa: Three couple treatment rooms, five single rooms
Facilities: Private Shower and jacuzzi in couple's room
Friendliness: Extremely polite receptionist and massage therapists
Pricing: Ranges from US$60 to US$120 for massage only. Between US$115 to US$220 for spa packages.
Although everyone is laothed to mention the dreaded credit crunch lately it has highlighted a relatively new act...no, not a new entry in the Karma Sutra...no, I'm talking about the staycation! What is a 'staycation'? I hear you ask. Well, it's an American term combining 'stay' and 'vacation' i.e stay at home vacation. It's one of those annoying new words but the theory behind it is good. Rather than spending a fortune on a holiday to say, a nice hot beach Thailand you would bring Thailand to your home (or local area at least) and save some of that precious cash. So, I've put together a rough guide on having a staycation and using my example of Thailand so here goes; Chill 'oot - What better way to get into the relaxed way of life than to treat yourself to a Thai massage. With roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhism , a Thai massage involves stretching and massage on a mat and leaves you feeling relaxed both inside and out!
Bring on the heat - While tropical heat may not be the norm for the rest of the world you should be able to recreate the feeling by visiting somewhere tropical instead. Try butterfly world in Edinburgh for exotic insects and clammy heat. Better yet, wear shorts and t-shirt whever the weather outside (well you wouldn't wear jeans and UGG boots in Phuket would you!? Thai food - That main pull for a holiday location for me has got to be the food.
I don't want to visit a country only to immediately hunt down bacon and eggs when I could be having tapas, authentic curries or even kangaroo! Why should your staycation be any different? For authentic Thai food, grab the family and head to the Thai Orchid Restaurant just off the Royal Mile. With a huge Buddha at the door and Oriental waitresses you will be transported to Thailand from the moment you walk through the door.
If after your massage you just want to unwind at home then why not learn to cook some Thai food for yourself? The Thai Orchid restaurant, Edinburgh has a set of authentic Thai recipes on its website for you to try at home. Each recipe has been cooked in the restaurant and includes some family favourites so you can be sure you are getting something 'real'. So that's it, some ideas for a staycation in Edinburgh. While it may not be quite the same as hot-footing it over to Thailand at least you save not only the hard earned pennies but you gain yourself the thirteen hours you would otherwise spend travelling - you can't lose!

How is it possible for you to travel for money?
Traveling for money is ideal for many people. Imagine yourself getting rich while living in different exotic locations or by taking trips to various places. You get to encounter and see wonderful things and have memorable experiences.
Traveling for money can be for everybody. Anybody with the willingness to travel, earn, and embrace the lifestyle can become wealthy abroad. The most common way to do this is to find travel, tourism, and hospitality jobs. These jobs are a dime a dozen and easier to get than you think.
These three industries offer the most jobs that will likely involve travel or working abroad.
The tourism industry is a huge industry that many national governments focus their efforts on expanding. It seems that just about every country in the world has something to offer for tourists to experience or see. They use marketing campaigns to get tourists visiting. And from the start, jobs are created to cater to the growing demands of guests and tourists.
You can get a travel job in almost any aspect of travel. You can be a cab driver or a flight attendant. It's important to look at every aspect of traveling as a potential job.
Travelers also require security. People with experience and training in personal security or law enforcement can travel in different locations for a career in security and safety measures. Tourist destinations, especially the crowded ones, are in need of reliable security and they are a good place to start when looking for security travel jobs. Another great place to look is at nightclub and local hot spots where rowdy tourists sometimes need to be controlled.
Hospitality jobs are service-oriented jobs that are mainly responsible for the comfort and well being of guests. These jobs are usually found in hotels, spas, and restaurants, and include responsibilities ranging from bar tending to massage. These kinds of jobs are closely tied in with tourism. In the hospitality industry there are plenty of jobs being offered for people from all walks of life and at all experience levels. Entry level positions usually don't require past experience and they provide you with the opportunity to move up in position. Hotels and similar establishments that have specialized services which provide comfort, pleasure, and relaxation have the most lucrative positions available.
Entertainment is a big draw for tourists. Travelers want fun and excitement and they clearly want to be entertained. Skills in music, comedy, and other stage performances can be opportunities for a flourishing travel career. It is very common for performers to travel the world and to cater to different audiences. The pay is great and the experience of entertaining different nationalities is very rewarding.
As you might have known, cruise liners offer all these jobs plus many more. They usually offer room and board as well as some spending money. You get the opportunity to meet people from all over the world while traveling from port to port. It is the ultimate vacation experience and also a great opportunity for travel job aspirants.
To get these jobs, try researching online about the qualifications and look for agencies that offer job placements for the positions you desire. Some training and credentials may be required, so on your spare time, it is a good idea to to attend some training programs and get certifications, like CPR training or learn a new language.

Traveling is a very worthwhile hobby, and is a great way to expand your horizons beyond your own comfort zone. It is also a fantastic window to emotional intelligence and comprehension of foreign cultures and lands. On top of that, it can be really great fun at the same time, and is always sure to impress an employer in your resume. Unfortunately, as much as many of us would love to travel, we simply don't have access to the necessary resources. In this article, we'll look at the various ways you can travel on a budget, and still experience foreign lands without all the expense.
Before setting off on any trip or excursion, it is imperative that you organize appropriate insurance cover for the duration. If you shop around, particularly online, you'll find great deals and offers on insurance, whatever your needs. Additionally, if you're a frequent traveler, you might like to take advantage of the year-long insurance policies that are widely offered. This might pan out to be cheaper in the long run when spread over a number of trips, and could provide more cost effective travel cover for the budget conscious traveler. Again, get yourself online to find out about the breadth of deals of this nature available.
The Internet can also be a useful tool in picking up some great deals on accommodation and flights. Since the growth of the Internet, traveling has become a lot cheaper as suppliers gradually cut out the middle man in their attempt to increase margins. By buying direct from the supplier through their website you're cutting out on the profit margin and overheads of the agent, and you can really save some serious money. Additionally, the Internet lends itself particularly well to the instant 'last-minute' style travel savings. The rationale behind this is that with a day to go, it's better to sell an extra seat on the plane for $10, rather than have it go empty. If you're flexible about where and when you travel, you can make some really fantastic savings, which will be really useful as extra spending money when you arrive.
Traveling is great fun and is certainly very commendable although it can be an expensive business. However, by being a savvy buyer in the travel market, and utilizing the Internet to its fullest potential, you can find amazing bargains to make traveling a much more accessible hobby.
